Merv Brandel (1948-October 2020)
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Merv Brandel. Merv received a serious cancer diagnosis 5 years ago, and since then has defied all odds to live his life, ride his motorcycle, share his time with his beloved family and continue to create in his studio.
We’ll always cherish our visits with Merv & Dawne at Adele Campbell Gallery and we’ll miss Merv’s easy-going smile and delivery of jaw dropping paintings. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
Our sincere love and condolences to Dawne and family.
Merv Brandel was born in Kelowna, BC on November 25, 1948. He attended school in Kelowna and then went on to study at the Alberta College of Art from September 1969 to May 1973, graduating with diploma in Commercial Art and Advertising.
Following his education, Merv Brandel worked as a commercial illustrator for 11 years. He owned and operated a commercial art business specializing in illustrations for architects and developers.
In 1984, Merv started painting full time and never looked back. His work was characterized by incredible photo realism. Where many have the ability to put on canvas the elements in the view, Merv was unique in his ability to capture the life of the subject and freeze it on canvas. He exhibited in several galleries across British Columbia, Alberta and beyond, he enjoyed his work becoming a part of several large corporate collections.
He enjoyed many group and solo exhibitions over the years and was forever grateful for his skills and career as an artist. Later in life he moved to the coast and his repertoire then included seascapes as well as dry land pieces.
Merv Brandel’s paintings can be found in private and corporate collections around the world. A number of notable companies include Alberta Art Foundation, ICG Resources Ltd., Burns Fry Ltd., Holiday Park Resort Ltd., Protech Consultants Ltd., Tier One Energy, Miliforuk Consulting Ltd., Interprovincial Pipe Line, TELUS, Frostemp Western, Nova Corp., Canadian Wealth Management, UMA Engineering, Phelps Drilling, Midland Walwyn, Eric P. Estey Professional Corp., Callow & Associates, and Calgary Golf & Country Club.
