Robert Genn was born in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1936. His formal training included the University of Victoria, the University of British Columbia and the Art Center School in Los Angeles, California.

Recognized as one of Canada's most accomplished painters, his work has become well known internationally. While his subjects are universal - he has painted on location in many of the globe's distant corners - he excels in portraying Canada. Work on Canada's west coast and in the Rocky Mountains has received particular acclaim.

Robert Genn's technique includes a tradition of strong design with harmonic patterns of colour and form. His personal style is unmistakable. Grand themes are transposed onto small panels and canvasses in a manner similar to the members of Canada's Group of Seven. His large paintings are unique monuments which honour Canada and have formed an important influence of cultural heritage.

Genn's autobiographical book In Praise of Painting provides an insight into the progress and trials of a Canadian painter. Other of Genn's publications include The Dreamway  and The Painter's Keys.

As well as works in acrylic, oil and watercolour, Robert Genn has produced more than 100 limited edition serigraphs. These low-edition works, using the silk-screening process, are created by an all-hand method which lends itself to his individual style.

His work also reaches a wide collectorship through a series of photographic prints. Genn's paintings and their reproductions are found in major collections throughout North America and Europe.

The Adele Campbell Fine Art Gallery is pleased to represent Mr. Genn.
